As a crucial storage and transportation container for high-pressure gases, the manufacturing process of seamless gas cylinders directly impacts the product's safety, reliability, and service life.Based on high-quality raw materials, the process involves a series of precision forming, heat treatment, and testing steps to create a structurally complete and stable cylinder body, ensuring excellent mechanical and sealing performance under high-pressure conditions.

The process begins with raw material preparation and inspection. High-strength alloy steel or heat-treated reinforced aluminum alloy billets are typically used in the manufacture of seamless gas cylinders. The materials must possess good toughness, strength, and corrosion resistance. Before entering the factory, chemical composition analysis and mechanical property testing must be conducted to ensure compliance with relevant national standards and design specifications, preventing internal defects and inclusions from entering subsequent processes.

Then comes the billet forming stage. The inspected and qualified bars or tubes are processed into hollow billets through hot spinning or cold drawing. This process applies radial and axial pressure under high or normal temperature conditions, causing the material to undergo plastic deformation and gradually reach the designed diameter and wall thickness. Hot spinning refines grains, improves metal microstructure, and enhances the uniformity and strength of the bottle; cold drawing achieves higher dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

The third step is bottle stretching and necking. The tube blank is placed in a specialized stretching machine, and through the relative movement of the mandrel and die, the blank is gradually extended along its length, thinning the wall thickness to form the basic shape of the bottle. Subsequently, bottom stamping and shoulder forming are performed, and the necking process is carried out to ensure the end diameter meets valve assembly requirements. This step requires extremely high precision in mold and process parameter control to ensure uniform bottle geometry and wall thickness distribution, avoiding stress concentration.

The formed bottle then undergoes a heat treatment strengthening process. A quenching and tempering heat treatment process is typically used to improve the strength and toughness of the material, enhancing fatigue and impact resistance. The heat treatment process requires strict control of the heating rate, holding time, and cooling medium to ensure uniform and stable overall bottle performance and prevent cracks or deformation due to improper heat treatment.

Finally, machining and surface treatment are performed. The bottle neck threads, sealing surfaces, and end structures are machined to specified dimensions and roughness according to standards to ensure reliable sealing when connected to the valve. Surface treatments include phosphating, galvanizing, or spraying with anti-corrosion coatings to enhance the bottle's durability in humid or corrosive environments and improve coating adhesion.

Non-destructive testing and pressure testing are core aspects of quality control. The bottle body must undergo ultrasonic and magnetic particle testing to detect internal and surface defects, and a hydrostatic pressure test is performed. The test pressure is generally at least 1.5 times the nominal working pressure, and the pressure holding time meets the specifications to verify the bottle's pressure resistance and sealing integrity. Only products that pass the tests can proceed to subsequent processes.

Finally, surface marking and factory inspection are performed. The gas type, nominal pressure, manufacturing date, inspection mark, and manufacturer information are printed on the shoulder or neck of the bottle according to regulations for easy management and traceability. A comprehensive re-inspection is conducted before leaving the factory, including appearance, dimensions, valve assembly quality, and accessory integrity, ensuring that every seamless gas cylinder meets safety standards.

In summary, the manufacturing process of seamless gas cylinders encompasses raw material inspection, billet forming, stretching and sealing, heat treatment for strengthening, machining and surface treatment, non-destructive testing and pressure testing, as well as marking and factory inspection. This rigorous manufacturing chain not only ensures the structural integrity and high performance of the gas cylinders but also provides a solid guarantee for the safety and reliability of high-pressure gas storage and transportation.
